As Environment, Labour, and Community Lead Advisor for Tengizchevroil, a major natural capital project in Kazakhstan, Brian served as a subject matter expert for the project’s biodiversity, waste management, and contaminated soil and water management.

As the Offshore Safety Lead for a 71 km long dredged channel in the Caspian Sea, Brian was responsible for representing the Tengizchevroil owners’ team within the dredging and dredging support fleet through construction of an access channel cargo handling facility.

Brian’s original commission when he arrived in Angola was to assist with site selection during the FEED stage of the project. He was subsequently contracted by Chevron and then Angola LNG to work in Soyo, Northern Angola, to provide advisement for the Project Management Team on a wide range of  issues including the delivery of mitigation measures identified in the ESHIA and contract agreements with construction contractors.

This contract saw Brian responsible for developing project specific compliance assurance processes for the Kitimat LNG project in Kitimat, British Columbia. He identified operational and verification controls for Environmental Assessment Certificate commitments, and was the author of Chevron’s Environmental Management Plan and Environmental Basis of Design. 

For over four years, Brian was the lead assessor for ISO14001 certification audits for the UK gas transmission utility Transco, as well as for the European automotive components manufacturer, Rockwell Group. This contract, through ERM CVS, based out of the UK, included undertaking regular assessments of environmental performance in multiple sites and working with corporate management.

Brian designed and delivered elements of a training seminar covering HES management systems, safety management and liability.  The output included a safety risk screening tool, a due diligence safety audit checklist and delivering training on HES auditing techniques.

Brian completed a lender’s health safety and environmental due diligence audit of a grain handling facility in Ukraine to EBRD and IFC Performance Standards. Approximately $1 million of safety and environmental improvements were identified during the inspection.

This project was undertaken for ENI in Egypt (Western Desert Meleiha Field and Red Sea Abu Rudeis Field). It included a program of observation, interview and inspection to develop a SWAT analysis of health and safety performance. 

Brian and his team provided support for the lender’s environmental and social due diligence, reviewing construction management plans, health and safety documentation, emergency response plans, incidence reporting and biodiversity action plans against IFC Performance Standards, all to ensure compliance prior to financial close.

This contract involved management and execution of field data collection surveys for construction camps and haul roads along the rail route from Rio Tinto’s Simandou mine site to the Port facility.
